Hessie Mae Baxter, of Jacksonville, Texas, lived a life that radiated love and compassion until her passing on March 13, 2025. She was a cherished daughter, a devoted wife, a beloved mother, and a pillar of her community. Hessie was born to Johnny Garon and Mary Loue Ellis on April 20, 1922.

In 1953, Hessie married Elmer Baxter Sr., and together they built a life rich with love, faith, and family for 71 years. She was a devoted caregiver, dedicating many years to helping others, showcasing her innate kindness and nurturing spirit. Her commitment to her family and community defined her existence, as she consistently sought to uplift those around her.

Hessie attended school in the Jefferson community, laying the foundation for a life filled with learning and growth.

A lifelong member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Hessie served faithfully as the church's mother. With unwavering devotion, she participated as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and vital member of the mission board. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and imbuing her with a sense of purpose. She was a living example of the love of Christ, always willing to lend a helping hand and embrace everyone she met with open arms.

Hessie's hobbies included sewing, working in her garden, planting flowers, and singing. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and often shared her talents with family and friends. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, blooming with vibrant colors that mirrored her heart.

Hessie is survived by her loving family, including her children French L. (Dolly) Baxter of Jacksonville, TX, Kerry Baxter of Dallas, TX, Jereline Smith of Fort Worth, TX, Janice (Drew) Gaston of Longview, TX, Dorothy (Larry) Johnson of Jacksonville, TX, and Wanda (Cory) Greenhouse of Tyler, TX. She leaves behind a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who will forever cherish her memory. Preceding her in death are both parents, her beloved sons Elmer Baxter, Jr. and Frank Baxter 

Though Hessie has been called home, her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her funeral service will be held privately, honoring her wishes and the quiet dignity she embodied throughout her life.

Hessie Mae Baxter will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts and memories of all who loved her. May she rest in peace, embraced by the love she so freely shared with others.
